Default D30 + 35" tires =

I hear the max tire for the D30 is a 35". I plan on Trussing it... My foot isn't THAT heavy on a modified 4.0, plus it will not be fully locked, more a limited slip.

Will it last? Has anyone broken on with 35"s? Was it pretty cool with pictures of said carnage?

No need to truss a front axle. Run it stock 'till you break, then get some Alloy shafts with Ujoints. See Rugged's thread. http://jeepin.net/forum/showthread.php?t=39982

Why no need to truss a front axle??

I'm about to buy an XJ from a guy with Q78 TSLs on a D30/D44 with detroits F/R and 4.88s. He still has stock shafts, and pops caps from time to time (last time we wheeled) but has yet to snap a shaft. He had 35" BFG MTs before these new TSLs and says that he goes through hubs and ball joints about once a year.

I plan on taking it easy until I can get some alloy shafts.

run the stock junk with the caps tacked in until you break 'em, then upgrade to alloys and aftermarket joints. You ought to be ok on 35's, just don't be jumping the throttle...

Jumping, or just flooring it? I THOROUGHLY believe in Skill over throttle..

Then you'll be fine, sure you may bust a joint now or then, but hell, I do that with 60's...it happens, thats just wheeling.

I prolly should have clarified. No need to truss a D30. Or a D44 for that matter.

IMO, if you're doing something that would require a truss, you have no business running a D30 in the first place. Pretty much the same thing with a 44. My opinion of course.

ahh, I see what you're getting at. But it couldn't hurt, no? Prevent spinning a tube or bending the axle I guess. Doesn't help the bearings/ball joints out at all though.

I agree with Phat, truss on the 30 is to much work for minimum return.

You'll be fine with stock 297/760 shafts i ran the 30 with them and proceded to not destroy them with the 36's and a heavy right foot. But balljoints are another story 2 trips after 36's they were shot...
