I just went to look at a 92 cherokee and instead of the light saying 4x4 when you put it in 4 it says Part Time. What does this mean. My 84 does say that. Any and all help is appreciated!

I dont think I've ever seen a Jeep light that just said "4x4"

think of full time 4x4 like having your t-case work like a limited slip differential, and part time 4x4 like having your t-case work like a locker.

do not use full time 4wd on paved roads.

4x4 part time is for off road use not street, unless is wet or muddy or has snow on the street.

4x4 full time u can use on the road. that is what the book says. but i still would not want to run it to long on the road thats just me. but my 96 XJ says part time on my 4high and my 4low. cuz i dont have the full time but i would think it would say 4fulltime or something like that. never looked at my dads when he puts it in 4full time.

How fast can you run it in full time? Is it just like the limited ZJ that only has full time with no way to get out of it?

All XJ clusters have them both regardless of t-case. Just a command trac XJ won't ever have it on, proabably doesn't even have a bulb behing it (my 93's factory cluster didn't).

All slushbox XJ's will have an idiot light to suggest when to shift. Doesn't really know when it's best though. But I will say shifting when the light comes on is better than letting a slushbox decided for you.
