Last week i got a local muffler shop to install a 50 series deltaflow muffler on my jeep. All together he gave me a good deal.

On the outside it sounds great but in the inside i get this annoying humming drone sound all the way till higher speeds. To tell you the truth it getting annoying, is their anything i can do to lower the interior sound ?

Pete

get a flowmaster to be loud and then complain about how loud it is...
But to answer the question: No.

Swap in a Dynomax SuperTurbo. Wish I still had mine instead of the Blowmaster 50 I've got now...

How would you compare the Dynomax to the FM, Jason?
Performance and sound both.

That's typical of a FM.
How is your exhaust routed, where does it exit, and which direction does it exit?

Peformance: didn't notice much from either, never really saw any real gains from my intake kits either.

Sound: FM is LOUD, and drones on the highway. Should really only be used behind V8's or on high school kids' cars. Dynomax was nice and mellow, and didn't intrude into the cabin.
FM50:
Dynomax ST:
But I simply don't care for loud exhausts. The Borla header helped with the sound of the FM50, but with the reduced backpressure came more lifter noise and a loss of low-end power.

The FM's are build like a brick sh#thouse though, tough as heck thick steel construction, vs the aluminized sheet metal body of the Dynomax.

well its exactly in the stock location. Basically the muffler shop cut the old one and welded in the flow. On the end of the pipe where it exits the back under the bumper he cut the stock small angle and put in a chrome tip.

that actually is relevant information: and is it clamped or welded?
Mine used to be clamped and it was soo poorly done/ leaky that it caused unnecessary drone.
Now its dumped after the muffler and hums so much the CD Player skips at low RPM's.....yee-haw!
Edit: hadn't read that last post when i wrote this

Put some sound-deadening material like Dynamat or its generic counterparts under the carpet along the rear passenger side floorboard and in the cargo bay. You might also stuff some foam or something in the rear quarter panel behind the trim in the cargo area.

This site has ranges of jeep motors and FM, Magnaflow and Borla.
But does anybody know where you can listen to a 4.0L with the dynomax???

my opinion is that that's WHY you get a Flowmaster, so you can listen to your baby. Nobody but you cares that your car is loud, and chances are you're the only person that notices it and/or cares about it...

btw, none of this is animose, just discussing, I come in peace

Actually i was thinking of stuffing something like dynomat under the rear area like jason said . What about those muffler shields ?

Something like this, or is it just a gimmick ?
http://www.jegs.com/cgi-bin/ncommerc...09&prmenbr=361

Does the tip produce any sound ?

honestly looks good to me-
and shielding your floorpan from heat is good for combatting rust I hear, too.

you'd probably spend AT LEAST that much on Dynamat, probably more! Dynamat is really dense though, and (imho) would dampen the sound more effictively than another layer of resonant sheet metal...
how fickle i am

You mean the damning stuff is good ? Or the shield is good ?

Anyone know where to get this stuff cheaply ?

Pete

BTW: I will try to post recordings later today.

Clarity:
First post said heat shield looked good
Second post said Heat shield is a good price, but Dynamat would probably be more effective (i changed my mind)
Dynamat is crazy dense; and you get it at BestBuy ish places...eBay might be able to get you some cheap, though

the shield is only for heat, I've got one on my 50.

For a cheaper alternative to Dynamat, do a google search for some stuff called B-Quiet, or something like that. Basically a cheaper generic version of Dynamat.

peal and seal... lowe's over half the cost...JD and I have it and some dynamat all over..it helps some..

i have the 40... mine only "humms" some of the time. but not really audible over the tires. I got it for the build quality.. i think they are built stronger then most if not all other mufflers. my other option was the dynomax... but liked the small size of the 40...

I've got the Rusty's 2.5" exhaust with a Flowmaster 50 series Delta flow and I love it. It's definitely louder than stock, but nowhere near annoying. I like being able to hear my exhaust, but I wouldn't want it too loud on my DD. The only problems I have with it at all are my cracked header and rattling cat. But that has nothing to do with my muffler. The Chevelle has Dynomax Super Turbo mufflers and they aren't bad at all, but I wouldn't mind something louder....but I also don't mind open headers on that thing

Never again will i get something different on a jeep

In addition since we are on the topic, do you who have the flowmasters tend to have an intresting smell after driving it and getting it hot?

Is this normal, or is it because its new and it will go away as it normalizes ?

Pete

It's because it's new. It'll go away once the muffler is "burned in".
