Check out the new issue (october) of FOUR WHEELER. There's an article on the new Ram Power Wagon, which features an electronic power disconneting swaybar up front. Looks like the same basic setup as the XJ's old vaccuum disconnect D30, but I don't know what Dodge is using to "power" it, only that it's "electronically controlled". Sounds pretty slick though. I don't think the same system is going to be used on the WK though, I haven't read or heard any info to lead me to think it so anyway.

i've definately contemplated the Vac disco into the swaybar deal. it'd be hard with the contorted swaybar that my ZJ has, but with a straight one, it certainly seems possible.

hope what we talked about made sense. it mis-aligning at flex thus making it very very hard to put back together. a simple version of that would be to just sleeve it with some DOM bout a foot long and use some through holes with quick pins to locate it.

Why not? I mean, if the technology is there, and it works, and it's reliable, and it saves you time and trouble...

Personally, I like having power locks and windows, and selectable lockers for that matter. Having an controllable swaybar too would be the shiznit. If only ORO made the SwayLOC for XJ's...

See, I like the mechinical way. I can roll my window up witht he key out (I always to it that way). I hate power windows for that reason. Also they're slow. Crank windows are faster.

I agree with 96 sport. It's justr a swaybar, why electronically control it anywas?

Thumbs down

You mean today's children - our offroading future - may never know the joy of laying on their backs in the mud hammering away at a stuck swaybar disconecct link ????

Bah, it's technology run rampant !!!

This country started going to hell when people stopped shifting their own gears !!!

You like stick shifts too don't you?

See, I like to be able to cruise down the road, and roll down all my windows at the touch of a button. No pulling over to the roadside and reaching around to every door. Same with the locks. I bet I can roll down all 4 of my windows faster than you can roll down all yours.

And I'm never in my Jeep without the keys, so unless the battery is d-e-a-d, the ability to roll the windows up/down manually is never something I've needed.

But that's why they're called options. Want a stick shift? You can get it. Want an auto? Sure. Power locks/windows? Yep. Manual locks/windows? That's available too. Everyone can get the options they want.

Now, on the PowerWagon, the electronic swaybar is standard, but so are front/rear electronic lockers, 33" tires, and a 12k Warn winch. Oh yeah, and the front axle has it's own skid plate for the steering too.

I'll check that out. Thanks Dub.

Also, I have the BJ (blingin' jeep), so why wouldn't I want a power disco sway bar to go with my sunroof, leather, and A/C?

Also, I don't think that swau bar would be that effective anyway....look at how long the lever arm on the bar is....

which swaybar are you talking about? the one on the PowerWagon or the SwayLOC? From talking with SwayLOC owners, when the bar is engaged, it's not quite as "strong" as the factory bar, but most folks like the slightly loosened feel and softer ride of it, vs the factory swaybar. The stock front swaybar on TJ's is huge too, considerably larger than the ones on XJ's.

Damn straight I like stick shifts!

I only ever roll down my drivers window because it's too much of a hassle to do the others. Plus the air flow isn't what I'm used to with more than one down.

When I park my Jeep, I pop the e-brake, then switch off the ignition and pull m key out. Then I unbelt myself, open the door and get out. Then I roll the window back up. While I was driving a car with power windows while my Jeep was laid up for the axle swap, I had to get back in and flip the key on to roll the window back up. THat annos the piss out of me. I did that my senior year of high school when I drove a car that had power windows. A whole year and I couldn't change.

When I was lookign for an XJ, my requirements were: straight-six, 4wd, stick shift, manual windows, manual locks. I got what I wanted and I'm happy.

Stick shift's aren't an option on many cars these days. Same for crank windows and manual locks. Hell on some cars (my Dad's new Outback for example) the alarm will go off if you use the key to unlock it after using the remote to lock it. And don't some German cars only have a key hole on the trunk nowadays?

And speaking of "options," I hate how most cars today automatically lock the doors when you start driving. Pisses me the fawk off, especially when I'm delivering pizza and have to constantly fumble around for my keys to get the passenger side door open.

the ones with the automatic locks should automatically unlock when you put the tranny in park...
