there is no point to put an msd ignition in a 97+ xj because the ignition system is infinitely adjusting. Also i think atleast 98+ has a coil for every cylinder. You would be wasting your money

we have weird ignition systems, don't we? hehe. I havn't even pulled off that cover yet to see what my ignition looks like. I don't wanna. I just know that if it looks liek this on the outside, i don't wanna see it on the inside. I have an odd feeling that repairs to it wont be as simple as a distributor...

I wouldn't mind trying the Jacobs ignition with the little external box that has a tilt meter, that way when your in a hill climb or going up rocks, you get more spark.

</font>[/QUOTE]well, it shouldn't be that complicated, a coil is a coil. I'm not sure if they're pencil coils though...might be...I'll be pulling them this weekend to do a spark plug change...I guess I'll find out.

basically, the factory ignition has no need to be upgraded, and its actually a very advanced and reliable setup. I would prefer it over the old dist. setup

pst. you can remove the + sign. 2001 was the final year of the XJ.

btw: if 2001 was the only year of coil on plug/multiple ignition systems for XJ's, then what the hell is this?
