Stupid question. Removing my rear bumper on my 99 XJ, got to removing the plastic ends and see there is a bracket that holds them up. They look to be held in by rivets. Just drill through them and pop it off? Should I hit it with any paint to prevent rust? Thanks.

once you remove the screws and stuff the end caps just pop of the bracket. take the end nearest the tire and swivel them up and back, they'll pop right off.

I'm talking about the bracket removal, I am building a custom bumper and don't want that in the way.

you can drill em out, but I choose to rip em off, the rear quarters are fawked anyhow, so it doesnt matter in my case.
