Default Not Too Ricey Is It?

well i've been thinking about cheap ways to clean up the look of the dd'er XJ. the XJ is almost all white with the exception of the turn signals and brake lights. i am planning on getting some of those clear front turn signal light covers to eliminate the yellow turn signals up front. but for the rear i was thinking about candying the rear lights cause i need to keep at least the red.

it's subtle, but would it look too ricey?

the way it sits now:

how it'd look with the candied tail lights and the white turn signals on the side

oh and just for reference, here's what they yellow to white turn signals would look like:

stock:

white:

and not sure if it makes a difference, but tomorrow a 2" bb will be going on it along with some ~30 all terrains.

personally I'd leave the front signal lenses amber to balance the tail lights. but it'd look good with clear as long as you didn't stick blue bulbs in them.

my old '01 Ltd with chrome grill and clear front markers:

yeah, it does balance out the back. but if i do that, i'll just leave the tail lights stock and not candy over the amber. it's too subtle otherwise

The clear corners were actually a photochop, I never got around to doing them before we traded that XJ...

I'm a fan of the white lights. I used PIAA Extreme White bulbs (i think) not terribly blue, just a nice white color.

I had PIAA's of the same color in my headlights (both bulbs), turn signals, and corner lights. I liked them and I got compliments on it quite frequently.

And I like the candy red tail lights too. Before I got my LED tail lights, I actually just put red rubber bulb covers over my turn signal bulbs. I got them at AutoZone for about $1.87. When they weren't lit up, the amber appeared as normal. and when my blinkers were on, they lit up in red. It was cheap and neat-o.

It's not all white until you paint the door handles, wiper arms, mirrors, roof rack, and hatch trim

Also check your local laws....not that you would get hassled, but you could if you had clear front markers/turn signals.

Thinkin white front turns are ok....but another option is amber light bulbs...not the YELLOW ones but the TRANSLUCENT AMBER ones...those will be brighter......

Yeah. it doe slook like mine.

Instead of the clear corners you can now get smoked ones and ones with clear lenses buy black housings on ebay. Might want to think about that.

Do the rear lights I always liked that mod.

He is fine as long as he doesn't do something stupid like put red or blue bulbs in the front.

I say do it. If you wanna go farther, I'd de-badge. If you wanna stay cheap, I'd turn you RWL's in, then paint the center of you wheels darker. If you wanna spend money, new wheels of your choice would be cool.

Some people think mine is too ricey, but why lift something you're never going to wheel. Now that's gay. Plus it gets you even worse gas milage out of something I drive everyday. I still want my XJ to look different than everyone elses, so it gets streetie.

LOL, or souped up Cavaliers.

I know a douche around town that has one...racing stripes, etc. We called him a fag and he chased us in my friends Silverado. Needless to say he couldn't even catch up when my friend was about 3/4 down on the throttle.

It looks way nicer as it is.

If you get clear lenses you are going to look like a high school kid.

I can't seem to get this point through to everyone enough; modifying your car* devalues it, both monetarily and in intangible ways.

i see your point and understand where you're coming from. however, i'm the type of person that wants to like what they're driving. i don't see either of my xj's as transportation appliances. and maybe it's me being materialistic, but i really want to drive something that i want to be seen in. i don't really care if it adds value. cause i know it doesn't. it's a hobby and a passion to work on and enjoy them, not just drive them to and from work.

but i do see your point and value it (just dont' go anywhere near my aw4 )
