alright guys, what will help keep a tire from popping its bead better? a wide rim? or a thin rim. lets say we were trying to keep the bead from leaking and popping off on an aired down 12.50 inch wide tire, would an 8 inch rim be better? or a 10 inch wide rim?

I'm assuming you're thinking of a 33x12.5 since that's a common size. Go with an 8" wide wheel.

With a wide wheel you'll have to run a higher pressure to feep the bead set. With a wheel thats too narrowyou will have to run a lower pressure to keep a decent contact patch.

I'm pretty tired now, so I could have gotten it mixed up. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.

Oh, and you do have to take tire height and wheel diameter into consideration when choosing wheel width. More sidewall (taller tire, or smaller diameter wheel) will let you run a narrower wheel. Less sidewall (shorter tire or larger wheel diameter) will need a wider wheel.

Considering he's already got 37's, I don't think 33's are on the menu...

Other than that, you're right, an 8" rim will hold the bead better than a 10", assuming a 12.5" wide tire that's at least 33" tall.

thanks for the reply guys, i ask the question just because of an argument with somebody else. i thought that a 10" rim would hold better than an 8". seems to me the wider the better, the wider the rim the more the tire would be at its natural position/shape, therefore not forcing it in a way it doesnt want to go. i admit, i was wrong.

Well look at a tire that isn't mounted on a wheel. Notice how close the two beads are to each other on the unmounted tire.
