...it is in the vechicle. I dropped the oil pan and cleaned it out and I dropped the oil pump. Everybody said, "prime the pump", however they never said how. So I put oil in the pump and put it back in place. Bolted the pan back on, then I started it with a new oil sending unit. I had no oil pressure. Now I'm told that I should have spun the oil pump when it was out. Now that it is in how can I do this, without dropping that pan again. Are there any side-effects to primming the pump through the distributor?
Cliff notes: oil pump is already in vechicle, how do I prime it without dropping pan again? tia donovan

as far as i know you'll want to drop it back out. take a cheap old flathead screw driver and cut the handle off and put it in a drill as a bit. put that in the the oil pump and run the drill with the pump in oil until it starts to flow out. then your ready to go.
