I debated going 8.8 or the 44A/12 bolt hybrid for a while. Either choice would suit me, and the hybrid will be easier to fab up, and I won't have to worry about the axle being narrower, which is a concern for me since I'm still running a stock wheel with my 33s. That made the hybrid the best choice for my application.

For a YJ, I'd definitely go with the 8.8...

Diesel, if he wants to get rid of this axle, I'm looking for one, so if he (wisely) decides to go with an 8.8, lemme know.
I remember everyone talking about that after that article in a 4x4 rag, but looking at the tubes on the zj axle I think I rather have d35 tubes </font>[/QUOTE]And you say this why? I can't imagine that the D35 tube is any bigger/stronger than the 44A tube.

I think they are about the same size actually never measured the wall thickness, but if you look at even a TJ D44 the tubes neck down after the axle flanges kinda like a d44 center and outers with D35 tubes.

Just seems like kindof a waste, especially with the availability of XJ/MJ D44's and 8.8's

Well, for a ZJ, I think the hybrind has more advantages than the 8.8, at least for my application.

The strength will be similar, the width isn't any narrower, and it'll be easier to true up 2 axle tubes and weld them than it will be to hack off all the CA and TB bracketry and weld it on an 8.8...

its an interesting idea, are you doing the work yourself? that can make any number of projects make sense, I've set up a number of axles with ZJ/TJ brackets (some funky ones too) it seems a bit daunting but goes pretty quickly (although I would probably pay to have the brackets plasma cut off or fab my own (also time consuming) and make them outta 3/16" and/or 1/4"

Has anyone besides that guy at stage west (was that the place) done that swap?
