so, i decided to drive my beater into work today so i could get the tires rebalanced and on my way home from work i started running above normal temps. just installed a brand new CSF 3 core rad from the radiator.com boys and its running hotter than the old leaky POS stock rad i had. any ideas?

you probably have air in the system
one trick that helps is to drill two very small holes in the outter part of the thermoustat, that will alleviate the air build up. on hole in the upper part, one in the lower part. burp the system, if it's an open system, when you fill it up, jack the front end up, then let it warm up, that helps burp it faster |

Your thermostat might be bad
Have you tried replacing that? This is improbable, but you could also make sure your fan clutch is in good shape.

i really gotta think you have air in the system causing this, or that there is an obsturction somewhere, like not enough air flow, bad fan clutch.
usually jacking up the front (in the case of an open system) helps the system to burp. also a small hole in the thermo helps that too )that tip works great if you use under drive pulleys) can you see the water circulating after the stat opens at idle, and is it filled? do you have electric fans with a manual on/off or adjustable setting? perhaps thats off?? perhaps the radiator could be a defect as well, but i really gotta believe there is an air pocket causing this. you have the right antifreeze mixture? try calling radiator.com to help? I asked about a 3core rad. for my MJ, and they were clueless on the phone, looks like i am going t o jeepradiators.com for it. |
