JK suspension to create TJ lift
Calling all Cheap Bastards:
Ive been doing some reading, and it looks like there have been some people using stock JK suspension on a TJ to create a lift. Right now stock Rubicon JK suspensions are a dime a dozen off Craigs List so it got me to thinking.... any input? |
Hmmm...I'll ask Bownut, he's never around here any more but he's into cheap shyt like that
|
I was going to do that on my tj I had this summer. According to Nick (thejeepgod?) It lifts it a few inches and rides pretty nice. You have to cut the rear coils though
|
Yep, just as Nate said. I did a bunch of reading initially and was finding 2" for a TJ and you can utilize shock too.
I'm actually running a set of 2" RE JK springs I got in my son's TJ. I netted about 4" over stock. You have to either heat and open up the top coil wrap on the rears to fit the pin or cut it off partially. I cut instead as I had a little rake which I wanted to get rid of. |

Fantastic 2 inches is really what we are going for...it's going to be the boys jeep. going thru Craigs list and FB market place, I think it would be realistic to pick up the entire setup for around $100 bucks. Cheaper and better quality than almost any other option. Any other tips you care to mention? |

Is that Bownuts rig? |
My sons '99 I'm just finishing up. Asked B to post since it's been so dam long since I posted pics!! LOL
|
Still got my orange '05, but I've since added several other Jeeps to the fold over the last couple years for wife, two of my sons, and another toy for me..... ;)
|
One other thing.....I know I had to change one of the shock ends. I believe it was the bottom of the front ones I had to put a bar pin on.
I used rear as is because I did a bar pin eliminator. |

Here is his we just picked up. bone stock. 2.5 with the rod shot thru the oil pan.. :roflmao: good thing we got a year and a half to get it up to par before he gets his license. https://i.imgur.com/cSdfN4d.jpg |
His started as a jeep buddy sold me to turn into wheeler as it had broken frame. I decided to rebuild instead, so did a frame swap and it got out of hand with spare parts and 2 other TJs I bought and parted out to fuel build and sell parts to fund.

This pict is what it looked like for his senior pics. I'm now trying to complete so he can actually drive for spring baseball and graduation.
|
Yeah, pretty lucky kid...that thing is really pretty nice. He's also a good kid, how he turned out that way is no question, his mom!
