i got a dana 60 front from a chevy and a 14 bolt from a... truck. that's about all i know about these axles.

D60 front: Pass side drop, and kingpin. the BOM is long gone from rust and grinding... however, i do have some other numbers that might help.

1. on the front of the axle, on the cover mounting surface at the top it says B277A
2. on the front right side of the casing on the top webbing it says C40386
3. on the front right side of the casing on the bottom webbing it says 60F
4. on the back left side above the webbing it says 261B

14BFF rear: looks newer. 10.5" ring gear. dual piston disc brakes. no BOM but still got some numbers.

1. on the inside it says 826 14
2. on the back right side of the casing it says:

8
GM D
202
26011826

that's about all i got.

any idea what each of these axles came from????? :bang:

It shouldn't really make much of a difference, they didn't change much of anything throughout the years. If the inner shafts of the front are necked down then it's a pre-1980 axle, if they're non-neckdown they're post-1980. None of the gears, knuckles, or any of other parts should be much different between the 2 though, I just figured I'd mention it so you had a year range to work with.

Not sure what years the webbing changed on the various 14BFFs but the components should be pretty much the same across the board for that too. Somewhere in the 00's they switched to American Axle but before that I don't think the guys changed any.

firstly, thanks john.

so if the front came out of a 80' that would be a K30, right?

the rear is 100% 14BFF, i THINK it's a 2500HD... i'll do a part # interchange at work to see if they changed any bearings or something at some point.

i guess these numbers are pretty worthless then?

What are you worried about?

Just tell the counter monkey it's from a 1980 GMC one ton.:dunno:

in my case, i am my own counter monkey. the way we look parts up in our system is year, make, model, engine.

i'll figure it out eventually.

You should be right saying K30. The K20's were D44's.

As far as the 14, I know the one under my Blazer is out of a '79 and doesn't have webbing, but the one under my '04 2500HD does (and it has disk like yours).

I was trying to get a Tcase output seal once and he kept asking you mean the transmission seal right? Had to explain the tcase is between the transmission and driveshaft

Especially since TJs were only offered in 4WD

yeah, it was back when I had my XJ that I was asked that question.

i've only been there about 3 weeks, and i've had to explain to a number of my coworkers how to look stuff up. there's 2 or 3 guys that can't tell the difference between a serpentine tensioner and a timing belt tensioner. the other day i told a guy to look up piston rings for a 98 RX7 for me...

... he did it. then came back and told me we didn't carry them. :bang:

anyway, i did some research and took a few parts off the 14B to match them up at work and cross-reference the bearing part numbers... rear is 2001ish Chevy 2500HD. all the hub bearings are on order and the master install will be ordered in a couple weeks.

two questions:
1 - where's the best place to find an open carrier 4.56 and up for the rear? (cheap)

2 - is there any way to make a front chevy 60 have DUAL piston calipers?

:chug:
