98 is a 12V right?

For exhaust... Banks or Bully Dog. If/when our rig gets some power mods, they'll likely all be Bully Dog (partially because we're Bully Dog dealers, and partially because I just like their products and designs).

I like Magnaflow and MBRP. Magnaflow should have sound clips on their site to listen too.

MBRP is quiet until you stomp on it.

No boost controler for a 12v. You can up your boost by blocking off your waste gate which will raise your boost level to around 30-35. Any more then that and you risk blowing your head gasket. And shifting your fuel plate and AFC housing forward will get you more power. Just enough that you can grenade your transmission. You can get varied levels of power out of the 12v fueling system depending on what you do to your fuel plate. I am about to grind mine to get me a ton more power without costing me anything. If you want to know details on what to do I have some good links for that stuff.

2nd gen 12vs were from 94-98.5. 2nd gen 24vs started 98.5.

Bank and bullydog are great for the 24v 2nd gens and the 3rd gen common rails but they are terribly over priced for their stuff for 2nd gen 12vs.

Jim MBRP is a great exhaust. Probably one of the best out for diesels. However that also comes with a price. There are alot of diesel performance shops that build their own exhausts for hundreds less then MBRP and other big name brands. With your truck I would recommend a 4" Turbo Back system. Seeing as how you have a 12v you will have a truck that actually sounds like a truck instead of one of those quiet overvalved 24s. I have a Silverline 4" TB on mine and it sounds awsome. I can get you a sound clip of it if you want. I got mine from Wicked Diesels. http://www.wickeddiesels.com/ Also check out Jegs. They have their "subway tunnel" exhaust systems for a great price. On my exhaust I ordered mine without a muffler and I got rid of the cat too. I have a ton of info on the 12v trucks if you want help or have anymore questions about it let me know.

No problem. You can also check out cumminsforum.com. There is a sponsors market place thread that has a spot in it where you post what you want and companies will pretty much make you their best offer. Thats how I found my exhaust and guages...got it all in a package deal. Its nice when they compete for your business. Just if you do it that way you can't post how much you got stuff for or say to the other distributors how much you were quoted from someone else.

Since he has an over valved engine :p I will help you out. Since you have only driven the new HO 24v then you will maybe be disapointed with the power...or lack of in a stock 12v. The specs on mine is 160 HP with 400 lbs tq. Thats nothing compared to the 300/610 combo on the 5.9 24v HOs. However, you can easily up the power output of a 12v to the same specs as the 24 ho by simply tweaking some things in the fuel pump. I am about to make mine just as powerful as the new ones by simply shifting a fueling plate and a housing on and in my fuel pump forward. I will be sitting at around 250-285 hp at the rear wheels and around 500-550 tq at the rear wheels. And later I will upgrade my turbo and injectors to get around 600 HP and around 100-1200 tq. One of the best things about the 12v is the sound of them. Especially after an exhaust upgrade or just simply straight piping them. For simplicity and electronic free fun go with a 12v. If you want something you have to plug a computer into to increase power get a 24v.

When I was last home in October of 2006 I could have gotten an 06 quad cab with CTD and all options for 29,999. I just couldn't get approved...stupid VW.

If you consider 2 hours max of work hard. All I have to do right now is remove fuel plate and grind it down slide it full forward and then slide the housing forward and tighten down. It should be very easy. And it is FREE power.

I see. Any writeups on this process? Do you know of any danger of 12v's melting down due to too high of EGT's, like my 6.5TD? I know with my truck, if the EGT's are not monitored, and leavy loading and lots of throttle, the turbos have been known to melt down, or something like that. I know on newer trucks, in stock form, they are pretty much idiot proof with their auto de-fueling stuff. Do the 12v's have anything like this, or do you just have to keep an eye on things?

Yeah there are some writeups on this stuff. I am going to get a cummins info post with links going before too long that will have that kind of stuff. A ton of info can be found at cumminsforum.com and cumminsdatabase.com. Yes there is a risk of meltdown under extreme conditions which can be reached very quickly. A good set of guages is a must if you are going to over fuel. However you can balance it all out to run safe under most load conditions...i.e. bigger turbo exhaust housing, bigger exhaust all the way back, intake, fuel balancing. It is all a trial and error type thing by monitoring your guages. If you are coming close to extreme high temps then you just slide you fuel plate back a little and see if it changes much. In stock form on a 12v I think it is impossible to have a melt down. On mine the highest I have seen is 800 degrees EGT. I think I read somewhere that a cummins thermal efficiency is at 1200 degrees. And you can run up into 1400 degrees for a small amount of time before you have to worry. Just let off the throttle when you see it go too high.

Gettin rid of the silencer ring does nothing bug improve the sound. . . I like the sound of a turbo spooling, some think it's annoying. Removing the silencer ring makes the turbo a little louder, that's all.

 :p With my new transmission I get around 20 in town now. Don't know about highway yet.

It does nothing for performance at all either possitive or negative. Like everyone else said it just sounds really cool. And if you do it you will find your self on the throttle alot more just to hear it...your MPG will decrease.

If you do a silencer ring removal along with this BHAF http://www.cumminsforum.com/forum/general-diesel-discussion/18714-got-my-4510-nanofiber-installed-today.html?highlight=silencer+ring Your turbo will really sing!! That is exactly what I have and it sounds awsome! Here is how to remove the silencer ring. http://www.frontiernet.net/~mopar1973man/2002%20Dodge/BOMBS/silencer%20ring/silencer_ring.htm
