I have an '00 with 78k on the ticker. It's going through oil but is not leaking a drop nor burning any smoke. Anybody else have this or know if it's common? It probably goes through about 1.5 quarts over the course of 4k miles :dunno:

yeah, 2.slow is the base motor that i am famaliar with and as far as i know it's kinda normal for it to burn oil.. they kinda suck for motors.

that's just been my experience with them thouhg.

yeah, 1.5 quarts for 4k isn't that bad, and the 2.0 was a lousy engine compared to some of the other that VW has produced. they burn a little oil and have other little quarks in them, the previous 1.8 was a better engine.

Yea, the 2.0 isnt much to brag about. Like they said, it's not uncommon for it to burn some oil. Swap in a 1.8T or VR6T ;).

Cool, thanks for the info. Timmay, the only swap it'll ever get is for another vehicle :D

Good thing. The electronics in those cars are a night mare if one was to swap in a VR or 1.8T. The best swap would be a TDI though if one was to do a swap. Can't beat 45-55MPG. As for the oil yeah thats pretty normal. I had one for a while. The engines are actually a very good engine. Pretty reliable for long periods of time with good maintenance and some decent fuel milage. Can't really get crap for power out of them due to the 2 valves per cylinder. About the best you can really do to one of those motors power wise is raise them up to the stock power of a 1.8t.

Swap on a new head with a turbo and then you're golden. :D

If you can get the computer to work right...most go with a stand alone control system at that point and that just isn't worth the money for what you get out.
