I just Tonight be came the proud owner of a 97 Cummins Turbo Diesel! And first off I need new tires, So the tires on it are 35/12.50/17 Pro Comp AT's I want something AT or better but I want long lasting tread, any suggestions from long time Diesel owners?

Congratulations!!

My GoodYear Wrangler Silent Armor are holding up well to burnouts, etc. It doesn't really matter because they have a 50k mile warranty which is what really sold me on them. They did well in the sand towing my jeep on a trailer and I was only in 2WD. I would recommend them to anyone.

I couldn't find them in the right size

Can't go wrong with BFG AT's IMHO. 315/70R17's are what we've got on our truck. basically a 35x12.5.

Agreed on the BFG ATs. I have Goodyear Wrangler AT/S on mine in 305s. Thay have been a good tire for me so far. Though when I get new ones they will be BFG ATs. Congrats on the truck. If you got anymore questions you know my number.

Looking for something that wont get me stuck too easy, but will last a LONG time in pavement.I know BFG's are good but emphasis is on long tread life.....also wondering if anyone could give me a straight foward answer on what/how much additive to use

I use the Power Service brand Diesel Kleene. Its a lubrication additive, plus cetane boost. A 96 ounce bottle treats 300 gallons for +3 cetane, and 150 gallons for 6+ cetane rating. I like the stuff a lot.

Is yours stock? If so, what is the power of a stock 12v Cummins like?

My gas tank only holds about 30gal at a time though.... I don't know wtf those bottles don't list doses based on something closer to an average gas tank on a diesel truck.

Basically, I put about 8oz in per tank.

Mine Has a Banks twin ram intake manifold and a freaking huge cone filter, but otherwise stock enginewise as far as i know, I haven't pulled anything yet but its got plenty of empty power

I hear alot about PS stuff so Ill try that stuff next fill up

Like I told you over the phone I use valvoline tcw3 2 cycle oil in mine. I dump in a full quart every other fill up since I don't run down close to empty before refueling. I usually go down to 1/2 to 1/4 so I do it every other fillup that way I don't end up increasing the mix every time i fill up. The oil makes quiets the valves down a ton...almost making a 12 valve as quiet as a 24 valve at idle. It also adds a nice 2 stoke exhaust type smell. Chack out some of the AMSOIL stuff too. They have a lot of good diesel stuff out now. And get some pics of this thing posted!!

Im happy with it....I'll polish up the wheels and put new tires on there and then we'll see a real good lookin truck, btw I have a buddy that will sell me his bfg at's for a good price, only issue is that they are 37's these are 35's and i think i have room, but might rub a bit, anybody know about the plastic piece on the inside of the front wheel wells and if it is modifyable? (might not be a word)

I think you have enough lift to clear them...you will likely get rubbing on your control arms though.

im thinking ill get more rubbing on the back side of the front fenders on the plastic piece which i think is useless, we'll see

That plastic piece is probably just used to keep mud and stuff out of the fender crease and door parts just like on my old XJ. If you remove it you will just need to remember to rinse that area out each time you wash your truck. Do it. then get a trans temp guage because without a regear you will be running higher temps.

Edit: I really like the new badging on your truck. I may try it on mine if I don't have shadows on mine from the factory badges.

MYTEXJ

Yeah the badging looks sweet, and it a got a paint job im assuming at the same time to cover any shadowing....trans temp sounds like a good idea!
Current fuel milage is dissapointing!! dont what changed

Would D load be ok, thats what is on it now.....Or is E load necessary not a whole lot of towing being done

J.D.

I would think D would be fine since you won't be doing a lot of towing. Especially if that is what you already have.
