View Full Version : Fuel Pump Replacement

I don't really use my truck for a tow rig on a regular basis, but I do alot of hauling with it for work. Yesterday morning I got to the office and parked, nothing out of the ordinary was going on with the truck on the way. At lunch it would not start. Engine turns over but no fire. Checked the coils they are discharging so there is spark. Checked the fuel press at the rails and there is none. FP relay and fuse both check out good.

I'm pretty sure it is the fuel pump but I haven't done this job on an f150 before. Questions:

Is it easier to remove the bed or drop the tank?

Should I buy the whole assembly w/ sending unit or just the pump?

Do you need a brass punch/drift to remove the rivet as in the old Fords?

Any tips or tricks would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Prob not the cause if you have no fuel pressure, but have you checked your fuel filter to make sure it isn't clogged? You will want to replace this anyway if you are doing the fuel pump.

Also, have you checked the wires at the fuel pump to make sure it is getting power and has a good ground?

I haven't done a fuel pump on one of those trucks, so I am not too much help with the specifics.

Havent checked the wires at the pump. That will probably be next.
