Here is what I want:
Reg Cab, long box, 4x4, 4.7L, auto
I'll settle for: (read I don't need it and can't justify spending the extra 4k for).
Quad cab, shortbox, 4x4, 4.7L, auto and possibly same but a reg cab short box.
How is towing with the SWB truck?
opinions?

I'd go for the quad cab shortbox if I were you. The wheelbase will be slightly better for towing, and the extra interior space would be very welcome after a while. I don't mind my regular cab, but there are lots of times I wish it were extended.
I haven't done enough trailer towing with mine to give good feedback.....but even the shortest is 119", so I doubt it'd be too bad.

Personally I'd go for the quadcab short box, or even the regular cab long-box. I wouldn't even consider a regular cab short box if I knew I was going to be using it for towing with any frequency (ie: buying it with the intent to use it for towing).
Go with the 06. Tail lights are gay on the 07. Of the 2 trucks though, I would go with the quad, short. And if you really need a longbed, buy a trailersome day. Well I suppose its simple , will you be carrying tons of stuff or tons of people, if it is somewhere in the middle go with the quad. Its more roomy, you can sleep back there, keep stuff inside...blahblahblah you know all this Im sure. Do you have 2 trucks in mind or are you just crunching ideas?

I'm looking to buy w/in a month. The goal is to tow the Heep and use it for camping and what not. I'd rather a reg cab long box just for the utility. I reaaallly don't want the reg short, but I found a killer price, $15k under sticker. But I decided not to get that b/c it really isn't a good setup for me. Thanks for the insight guys!

I have a reg cab long bed 4x4 w/ 4.7. It tow really well. I've towed my XJ on a 16' trailer packed wth enough tuff to build another. Pass every thing put a gas station. I get 11mpg towing or not.
