On my 87 4.0L the fuel injectors are just press fit into the cylinder head and are removable by hand. Disconnect the fuel rail from the fuel line, remove the bolts holding the rail to the head, remove the electric wires, and then carefully pull the injectors from the head and remove the whole assembly. As mentioned, the injectors are held into the rail by clips and can be removed with a screwdriver or other pry tool. Be careful not to nick the new seals as you put them on the injectors or back into the head. Putting the injectors back into the rail (before installing on to the head) takes a firm steady pressure (don't rotate them or you may nick the seal and be back at the start point) and they should click in to place. Good luck and work slowly and smoothly and you shouldn't have any problems. If you can get a Chilton or Haynes manual the whole process is explained.

Once the injectors have the o-rings on them, sometimes its a pain to push them into the rail.
What I did is poured some motor oil into a oil bottle cap and dipped the end of the injector in it to lube the ring, and they slipped right on.

yu[p but dont try and get efficent and lube em all at onve. lube it and put it right in.. the o rings will swell if they sit in oil.. making them a pita to install
lube, immedietly install

Steve88XJ and diesel298 have good points. Just a drop of oil on your fingertip and applied to the seal being installed in the rail is plenty. One at a time. You don't need to lube the seals going into the head.

Are you sure they are leaking at the "O" rings. Mine were leaking at the injecter body between were the plastic and the metal meet. If they are leaking here you will have to get new ones. I suggest replacing all 6 at one time with Ford 5.0 HO yellow top(19# per hour) injecters. They are a direct replacement for the RENIX XJ's and can be gotten much cheaper than the stockers.

MAKE DAMN SURE
you mark the injectors and electrical connections as to where they go.....
Label the wiring harness BEFORE you do anything...Injectors "SHOULD"all be replaced at the same time...
If the leak IS INDEED the O rings most parts stores should have O ring kits
2 for each injector and 1 for the FPR

not sure were the leak is i will look again today the sucker runs great no missing at all no hesitation at all with them leaking looks like the fuel rail is wet
also no im not driving it its parked in my shop im going to try the orings first there was a small puddle of fuel under the jeep was idling for about 5 min in driveway do you think its the injectors? Jeep sat for about a year and a half just got it back on the road 6 months ago could my orings have gone bad do to long sitting period?

Yeah....if it's be setting for 1.5 yrs there is the possibility that the O rings are dried out...Replace the O rings....start it up and see if you have any more leaks...If you do then replace ALL the injectors...By replaceing ALL of them you eleminate the possibility of having to tear it down each time ANOTHER injector leaks...Might wanna replace the fuel pressure regulator while your at it....
Most parts stores will have the injectors...and they are usually NOT cheap!
The link below will give you several options as to which injectors you will want to use.Look up your motor and the rest is up to you. They have OEM...and all the way up High performance...and everything in between
