ok so I will finally be making money soon and not living of of loans. This of course means I can spend money on my jeep again. The first thing I wanted to do was put a lift on. Of course nothing is that simple. I am going to have to park in a parking garage and I am not sure how tall i can go without taking the roof off. I was only going to go about 3 1/2 inches and was thinking of one of REs lifts. So the question is does anyone have experience with driving a lifted jeep in a parking garage and if so how high was the lift. I know not all garages are the same height but i am going to an average and I don't know the height of the parking garages I am going to be using
thanks

Well, think of it this way. Your Jeep will be 3 inches higher than it is now. So, how much space do you have between you and the ceiling of the garage. If it is more than 3 inches (im sure it is) you've got nothing to worry about.
So I guess I'm saying you'll be fine. icon_smile_big.gif

a jeep is pretty short compared to some SUVs... so u should be fine w/ just a 3" lift

hey i have my xj lifted 3 inches thats actually about 4 and ahalf till it settles my xj with 31s only sits as high as a new explorer. but the clearance probs i run into are with my lights clear my garage by about an inch at most so you should be ok
well if you lift it just 3 inches and keep them stock tires you would be fine for sure unless you find an extremly short garage
but if you plan to get biger tires you might want to add some hight into the space from the stock hight to the new added hight!

my cherokee is lifted 4.5 inches and has 32" tires and i ahve no problem parking in the parking garages at the mall and other places, if your looking for a good lift as well the rubicon 4.5 inch lift is very complete, it comes with tc drop kit, upper and lower control arms, brake lines, trac bar and heavy duty frame mount, and its about 800 dollars plus installation

At 3" with 31's the garage I use for working on my Jeep is a;,pst tpp short. But the garage is unusually short as it is.
If you lift 3" and keep the existing tires you can expect your XJ to be 3" taller. But larger tires make your XJ taller too. Tires will increase height by 1/2 of the difference in old and new tire actual diameter. So going from 235's up to 31's will give you another inch or so.

like i said an xj with 31s and 3 inches will sit as high as an explorer. so you should fit. now for the sye maybe you will need it i have 3in lift and it sits right at 4 inches and get horrible vibes without a t-case drop. i dont have the money for an sye right now but the t-case drop was cheap and easy so i did it.

Some people do the T-case drop anyway, but you can get by without it. If after you do the lift, you experience some major vibes, then concider it. I'm running a 3 inch lift and dont have either, and I have no problems.
Good luck, man! icon_smile_big.gif icon_smile_big.gif

There really is no way to know if you will need a SYE or TC drop until you lift it. All XJ's are different. It also depends on what year it is. 96+ XJ's are more likely to need some kind of correction. I needed an SYE on my 00 XJ after 3" of lift. TC drops are a quick fix but kind of defeat the purpose of a lift. Why lift to get more ground clearance then start lowering things back down? My suggestion would be plan on an SYE. If you don't need it then you have extra money for other parts. Like more lift icon_smile_big.gif While I am giving my opinion, I would also suggest an RE 4.5" lift. If you wheel it, you will want to go higher and the 4.5" is a lot better kit to build on. I know you may not believe in this logic but neither did I so I started with a 3" kit and am now at 6.5" and ended up paying for the same parts 2 or three times. It will become an addiction. icon_smile_big.gif

I was thinking of only a 3 1/2 becuase i was not planning on doing any freaky off roading with it. maybe when it gets older then i will feel more inclined to beat on it. I am hoping to get a CJ this summer to do so serious wheeling with. I wanted to put on a lift but not go too high that I would have to deal with syes and such.
Pitdog I went to UConn for undergrad. Right now i am in NY but come home to CT when I can. my house is about 18 mins from Storrs
Do you guys think the 3.5" XJ Super-Ride Kit is good or should i look at others? t
thanks
