hmm, I might be in, but I'm not sure if I'd be able to keep up in the ZJ w/ only 31's & 2"s of lift. I'd really hate to be the stubling point of the trip.

in 5 years his voyager had 130k on it and he wrecked it ... that thing was amazing he broke the motor mounts at least 5 times takin my sis to college and never new it drove it for like 6000 on broken mounts and never had a prob jsut a clunk lol.

Justin - yeah, I'll need a 23 spline one probably, so don't worry about it.

If all goes according to plan...I'm gonna try and get a new NV3550 and NP231 combo by then...we'll see what happens. After all the shiit I did with the conversion in the last month and a half I don't think a tranny swap will take very long. Especially since it's a bolt-in swap. I'd love to join you guys out there though, so I'll see what I can do.

vette anything else you could do to fix it?

Vetteboy
10-22-2003, 05:20 PM
Well, yeah. I can find another junkyard trans and t-case and take my chances there. Or I can get the current trans (Peugeot BA 10/5) rebuilt, for $1500, but it was a piece of crap from the day it came out of the factory. Also, I haven't had a chance to open up the transfer case yet, so while I'm pretty sure it's just the chain, I don't know what else is f'd up in there. Seeing as I'm gonna keep this XJ around for a long time, I'd rather just do it right and know that I've got reliable parts underneath, ya know?

But...if you know where I can get a guaranteed used AX-15/NP231 combo from, that'd be a step in the right direction as well. graemlins/thumbsup.gif

Are you guys just going out for the day, or are you gonna camp any nights out there?

I know the BA10/5 is a piece of crap. In fact I knew that when I replaced my 2wd AX15 with it. But I wasn't planning on having it in there permanently, and since I got it for free and the donor had 110k miles I figured it might last for a few months until I had the cash to get something good. And I figured wrong. So now here's me, with no 5th gear, no 3rd gear synchro, and some funny noises coming from it...

I should know by next week whether I'll be able to get my junk together in time - purely a matter of having money to buy a trans/t-case at this point. If I make it out, it won't sound like my t-case is chopping rocks with a chainsaw.

How 'bout pawoodwagon and braveyota? What are those guys doin?

Also, are we just goin for a day or are we gonna camp out at all?

I'll see what's going on...one of my friends may want to go along as a passenger so if he does I'll probably end up carting his butt home. But after drivin 3 hours to get to PAP, and spending the day there, I prolly won't want to drive all the way home again.

Yeah I know where hightstown is, right on rt. 33. I go through there sometimes driving from school to home or back. And hell...west chester ain't that far from here either, 'bout an hour maybe. I could probably do it in less but I've got two speeding tickets in the last few weeks so I gotta hold back for a while.

let me know about the difficulty of the trails, i would love to go get covered in mud, but i do not want to get stuck and slow you guys down. i also do not want to break anything major because it is my dd. maybe i'll show up with the top down and doors off if it is not too cold.

We're getting a very good turnout. There's some stock/stockish guys that want to run some of the lighter trails (which still get pretty good and challengeing for a stocker/mild build) and we can probably get a "stock" group together to kinda split off and do their own little thing.

we can figure it all out once everyone shows up.

matts96zj
10-29-2003, 04:59 PM
I'll be running the lighter trails since the ZJ will be fresh back from the body shop... don't need to ruin the nice work that'll be done by then. Have any of you guys who wanna run the stock trails been there before?? If not, I'm gonna ask someone from my local club to give me some good trails to run. I've been there once before, but PAP is huge & you can easily get mixed up, I also don't wanna end up over my, or another's head & stuck, there is really no turning around once you're on a trail.

I'm ordering a trans and transfer case sometime this week.

Unless I get that junk that Cotter's got in the swap meet, in which case I'm driving out to Wisconsin and pickin it up, then coming home and putting in the trans.

Either way...I'd say 80% chance I'll be there, ready to get my arse kicked out of any restaurant y'all can come up with.

Oh yeah...Ryan...what are the chances of an AX-15 or NV3550 using the same size pilot bushing as a BA 10/5?

I was hoping that I could get away with not having to take the pressure plate and junk down, but if I gotta change the bushing out I think I'll have to.

Well I just ran some of the "stock" trails last weekend at PAP. Had a good time. If there are a few stock or near stock Jeeps going, then I'm probably in. Otherwise I don't want to hold up you bigger Jeeps.

Last weekend was my first time there, so I'm not sure where a good place to meet would be.

Hope to have some pics of the weekend trip up soon. graemlins/thumbsup.gif

I'll be running some easy (stock) trails w/my ZJ... I'm already in hot water for taking the ZJ out again so I can't afford any more trail damage. I also have a bud who is tentatively planning on going w/a bone stock YJ. I also know of another ZJ'er who might be up for a run. There will be a group running the lighter stuff so don't worry.

how far off 81 is Tamaqua, I might be up far a trip a little out 'o the way to get the day started off right graemlins/icon322.gif .
ps. since I've been on runs w/the Keystone Krawlers, they always use cb ch. 4 as a "pre-run" channel, kinda a ritual on the way to a ride. graemlins/iono.gif It's usually open, I've never heard anyone on it, except their wheeling groups. (yes, I cruise around w/it on quite frequently)

I'm gonna have to leave my house at 5:30. Nice.

I'm callin Advance Adapters today, maybe if I can get an order in soon I can have the junk by this weekend and get it installed. Either way, I'm ordering it this week, and dropping it in ASAP. My BA10/5 is makin some really strange noises right now...

You think i'll be okay with the sway bar in...(the back is removed) seriously, either trim, or run smaller tires. I wouldn't worry bout destroying the fenders, fenders have sharp metal edges, I'd worry about destroying the tires!!!

you've seen my trimming, I'm around the same height. I rubbed a little @ paragon. if you keep the swaybars on, you'll hafta run w/ the stockers. 33's or not, you won't make it without some flex.

now go outside, grab yer sawzall and start fawkin cutting. I will bring my mini BFH + sawzall to paragon (I'll be running 36" TSLs and I KNOW i'll have to make some "adjustments" on the trail)

Red Ridge Lake Campground is open year round. It's 10 minutes from paragon and offeres primitave camping for $10 a night. That means no water, bathrooms or electric. I'm only 1 1/2 hours away, so I'll be heading up early Sat morning.

I'll be more than happy to lead a stock group...I don't want to beat on it too bad because I just don't trust the Jeep yet since getting it running again from my last trip to Paragon. Now I'm getting some NASTY low speed vibes...hopefully I can fix that before the run.

Registration can take forever up there. I was there this past weekend and there were probably 100 rigs there or so. There was a line at the gate before they opened it at 9. If we are ready to go which could be hard we could be registered quickly. If we end up waiting for people to show up which happened this past weekend it could be like 10 before we get out.

I'd suggest being as early as possible. I was up there around 8:15 this past weekend and there were already tons of people gassing up and whatnot. 8:15 is way early though, i just had to change my tires so i was there then.

Vette: if you want to crash at my dad's place that's cool, but he's like 1.25 hours out of the way in Hershey.

Oh, and to rant a little,i can't believe PAP keeps the rats at 35 bucks a day even though their hours are cut down to 9-4, that's 2 hours less wheeling times, uhggg. alright, ventilation complete.
