Ok my engine in my Firebird is makeing bad noises. It is a 91 305 V8 TBI 5spd. At first it was making a claking sound. It sounded alot like a lifter going bad. Thats what I thought it was. But it didn't make it all the time. It would knock around 2000rpm and stop at about 35-4000rpm and when you started it. The other day I had to do a hard break because some dumbass decided to try a utun on a red light. The tranny was in nuetral. The car just died after that. It started back up but was making a horrendus clacking/knocking sound. It now make the nosie on start up and all throught the gear range except reverse. If you put it in reverse it dosen't make the noise at all.

I have been told I have a cracked flywheel to even a damaged throwout bearing. Just was thinkin on what you guys think might be the problem. If it is the flywheel do you think I should replace the clutch too?

if it is a cracked flywheel no doubt your clutch is toast too. I have seen a lot of import racers come into my work with stock clutches that have had the pressure plate break apart. It seems to me that you would get this noise in reverse though too it it was your clutch.

I own the Fbird. So now all the money I make is going towards a Jeep. I should have a Jeep in less than 6 months.

ok need some more info.... where is this noise coming from? (engine, or tranny)

i agree if your flywheel is jacked the throw out bearing and cluch assembly is prolly gone too... graemlins/icon_banghead.gif but again this all depends on where the noise is coming from...

is it doing it only when in gear???
