I'm looking into buying a 1994 Audi Quattro 2.8 5speed for really cheap. The car is in great condition inside and out. The only thing is it needs the throwout bearing, and a few other bearings in the transmission.

Does anyone have any idea (ballpark) what it would cost to get the tranny rebuilt?

The guy only wants 900$ for the car, and I'm looking to spend like 2k tops.

So as long as the tranny rebuild would be around 1k I'd be all set, but I havent a clue.

Yeah, search for a rebuild kit online, or at least figure out the name of the transmission (i.e. AW4, R150, AX-15...) and research (google) them and see if they're pretty standard or pieces of junk that shouldn't be worked on.

I know german stuff is expensive to work on a lot of times.

Did Audi = VW in 94? If so, look at what VW model the transmission came in and try to price that out instead - "VW" transmission is probably way cheaper than and "Audi" transmission, knowhatimean?

That being said, you may just get a whole new unit out of a VW at a salvage yard or something and spare yourself the rebuild drama.

dub transmissions are expensive as well. transmissions are just expensive all around, my honest guess from looking at something similar is you will pay at least another $900 or more for a good rebuilt one. if you dont mind doing the rebuild yourself then you can probably get away with $300 to $700 depending on what needs to be replaced.

I'm going to call around, but I just wanted to see if I could get a rough idea from you guys. $900 is a deal for the car, and I'm willing to put money into it, just I'm limited to 2K right now - leaving for college in 3 months.
