View Full Version : Toyota "8.4" Axle Noise

Pulled out on a real steep hill today, had the parking brake on, pulled out, let parking brake loose, pretty standard steep-azz-hill procedure, but *immediately* after I did it I started getting a weird *** noise from both drums, or possibly a bearing noise.

I'm thinking maybe the parking brake is stuck a little... any other ideas, I don't wanna tear into these drums, such a pain in my ***.

Since it started immediately after you applied the parking brake, I would think it's parking brake related.

Is there anything about the Toy drums that make them worse to work on than other drums?

They're slanted since they're from Japan - much harder to work on :lol:

Really I just would rather not tear into drum brakes, it's nasty hot outside and my tools are pretty incomplete (a lot of them accidentally left with the SeXJ :bangtard:

I'm thinking that I agree that it's GOT to be parking brake related - I'm going to try to put the brake on and off, maybe pull on the cable with some plyers, back up for a mile or something.

Try adjusting them automatically. Just back up and slam the brakes. The auto adjuster should work fine...

If that doesn't fix it your only option is to pull the drum...

I drove to the range and back and the noise is gone :dunno:

It's done this a couple of times, but who cares, it's 13 years old

in a month your axle is gonna fall out. Jeep= blown tranny Toy= rear axle problems... good luck to you sir :f2:
