I'm weighing my options on my next build and I like the sounds of a ford 8.8" in the rearend on my yj. However, the c-clip design bugs me. Does anyone know if anybody makes a c-clip eliminator, I have heard that they exist.
Also, Jason you said you have d30 running on both of your rigs with 35's. How do you have these built? How do you drive, heavy on the stupid petal or conservative?
Thanks

If you get one with discs you won't need it. The disc brake backing plate will hold the shaft on even if the c-clip breaks.

There might be a kit available, but I've heard they all leak... FYI: if you're really worried, go with a Warn full floater, then no worries at all!
The D30 in the RokMachine has the stock 3.73's and an OX locker, otherwise it's "stock" and as such already has 297x u-joints.
The D30 in BigRed is out of a TJ and has 4.56's, ARB, and a Warn 5x4.5" kit with the alloy inner/outer shafts and 297x u-joints.
I would characterize our driving style as "moderate" as far as use of throttle goes. Jen's a bit heavier in the foot than me but she also drives a stick so hill climbs for her are different than for me with my auto tranny. However, we both prefer the slow crawling, going more for finesse' vs balls to the wall full throttle assaults.
