Well my option to go with a 93 XJ was just sold to someone else.
So I am now looking at a 89 XJ with 151093 miles on it with the 4.0 engine.

That should still last me awhile right if I take care of it?

just makeing my parents happy about reading this!

sounds like a good deal to me. the inline 6 is known to last, some members on here have 200,000 and even 300,000 miles on their stock engines.

Ahhh, 89 was a good year...but maybe I'm just saying that because I drive an 89 myself.

Ive got 116k on my i6 and the engine runs fine. Obviously, when you buy a 13 year old vehicle your going to have some problems, so be prepared for minor stuff. Things like power windows, and wheel bearings.

But I'd say at 2 grand, it sounds like a good buy. So, Good luck with it. icon_smile_big.gif icon_smile_big.gif

I have a loaded 89' that has about 215,000 on it and it's been a great daily driver with no power problems, even with 33's. The only thing that was weak when I bought it was the rear wiper motor which is an easy and inexpensive fix, the power door locks are kinda gummed up and slow, and a couple power windos could be faster, but this is all expected for the use it's seen. Otherwise, I bought it stock with 179,000 on it Sept. of 2001 for $2700. Sounds like you may have a good deal if there isn't any body damage.

Hey Gabe baby, '89 is a good year, thats what my trail rig is! 2k is a pretty good price, and you should get plenty of miles out of the motor-mine has 196k-still runs really well.
That is about the milage that all the external part on the motor start going, like water pump, alt, starter. but those are all easy fixes.
Take out the air filter and look at it' see if its all oily, if its real bad then you have alot of blow-by(which can be fixed). Blow-by also causes some oil to come out around all the grommets on the EGR hoses on the valve cover.
Check it out real close, make sure it hasnt been wrecked, climb around underneth it, look at the floor and make sure its not rotted out-look at the floorboard underneth the end of inner fenderwell liner(like the other side of where your feet go when driving)make sure you actually lift up the liner and look under it. Rear seat floor also. This shouldn't be a big problem if the truck is from TN(don't think you guys get alot of snow)but you never know where the truck came from originally!
Good luck on the truck, hope it works out for ya, and keep work on gettin' us some pics of your hottie!! graemlins/laughing.gif

ok well i'm pretty sure my dad would have said that one too
and i prolly would have if i was pressed more on cash for this one!

but can anyone answer the last question?

No,you don't need to have it disassymbled,But you do need someone you trust to check it all out just to make sure its safe and in reasonable running condition.
You pay $2000 for a jeep, your gonna probably gonna have a little work to do on it(thats a pretty good price). But what you don't want is to buy a vehicle that say, has a motor or tranny,T-case,or axel fixin to go out.
A valve cover leaking or something small shouldn't keep you from buying it though.
Good luck on this.

To answer the last question, yes. It should last you a long time.

If your gonna use it as a trail rig to thrash on, body damage is no big deal...but it can be a good indicator of how well the last person took care of it.

89 XJ is a reat choice, as long as you do not have the ABS brake system!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
