Are they basically the same as the THOR ones, only no logo?

I guess to specify more... do the guards go all the way out to the tail light and cover its side/or have a built in enclosure?

they will cover 1" of the tail light.

Just for anyone that is considering buying them do it. I have the rear upper and lower guards on my XJ and they kick a$$. They saved body damage many times.

THOR is 3/16" thick steel rolled/contoured steel to fit the shape of the rig, countersunk holes for a flush finish with all stainless steel hardware (provided), integrated light boxes with an available LED light package.

Oh yeah....and some nifty stickers. suave_anim.gif

BUT WHAT DO U THINK THE THOR GAURDS ARE GONNA RUN U. AND IF U WANT THE LED LIGHTS I HOPE U HAVE A BIG BANK ACCT.

I have been using these of almost 2 years now on one rig or another and I started with 3/16 plate. It is impossible to get the radius from front to back as well as the radius from top to bottom in that thick of material. I also found that it WILL buckle the XJ body at the bottom rear and front rear window area if hit hard enough. Thats why I use 11 ga. cold rolled instead of the 3/16 hot rolled. It will give before it trashes the B and C pillars of the body. Oh yeah they work with ALL sets of LED light boxes out right now if you want to run a set later how ever I recomend Formatt fab boxes.

The "impossible" is incorrect. The fore/aft and up/down curves are clearly seen in the final product.

The problems you cite haven't revealed themselves in the last 12 months of testing.

To each his own...a lighter duty material may work well for some wheelers. Here in the trees of the PNW or the rocks of the Sluice Boxes on the Rubicon to Pritchet Canyon at Moab...thicker is better.

It was not my intention to hijack your thread, only to answer the 2 questions posed above and respond to the difference of opinion with the maker of your group buy product.

One nice thing about the XJ...there are certainly plenty of options available.

Good luck with your group buy. If anyone has questions about the THOR product they can hit me with a PM and leave it out of this thread.

Well let me clear up the "impossible" statement. If the coverage went to the bottom of the rear windows(over the body line) like the sets in the 'Group Buy' it would be "almost impossible". I know because I have done them in 3/16 up to the window. Dont get me wrong Im not downing the Thor sets just pointing out some differences.

are there different versions for people who have flares, and those who don't?

Chris Lasater

no, the flares will go on over the panles. They even work with Bushwackers.
