I'm still looking for a cheap trailer to tow my YJ on. I currently have a landscaping trailer that I use for towing motorcycles and just about anything else that fits on it and weighs less than 1900 lbs, but I'd like to get something that can handle the weight of the jeep (or possibly another bigger heavier vehicle like a pickup truck), but still be light enough to be good for hauling bikes out to different events. So, who's got what, and what are the specs on it, how do you like it, and how much did it set you back? etc. etc. my budget rigth now = no, but i'll be selling off parts soon hopefully to pay for a new radiator, and taking what's left to put towards a trailer and hopefully some new big tahrs for the YJ...

when i started looking for a trailer, I also started looking for a used one. what i found was that anything that looked like it was a decent price was complete crap and needed a lot of work (and money dumped into it).
All the used trailers I found that I liked, were all priced a few hundred dollars less than a band new one. I decided it would be better for me to save up some more and go brand new. I think it was a great choice. I did not inherit someone elses problems.
That said, I went with an 18 foot PJ trailer made from 5" channel:

Been very happy with it. It tows great behind my Expedition. Brakes on both axles are a must. I paid $1850 for it.

I have an 18+2 with 82.5" between the fenders.
I bought it new from a reseller. Almost all trailers like this (unless aluminum) are built in Missouri. In Missouri, prison laborers build trailers. People buy 5 trailers down there at $800-$1000/trailer and sell them "up north" for $1400-$2000.
It's a bit on the long side. I probably should've gotten a 16+2 but this trailer was the same price as a 16+2 plus this one came with free ramps and was set up for under the deck ramp storage. It's made out of 5" channel and while it has relatively nice looking fenders I'm going to cut them off and build drive-over fenders. The stake pockets are only welded on the outside.
It came with four baldass tires on Ford 5 on 5.5" wheels. 2" Bulldog coupler. Brakes on one axle. The paint on the trailer isn't worth jack ****. I painted the deck with porch and floor with traction additive (silica sand) in it. I fell on my *** TWICE when the deck was wet... couple more times when it was snowy.
After buying the trailer, paying for tax on it, paying for title, paying for plates, buying a slew of 3/8" G70 chain and hooks, four ratchet binders, two lever binders, rewiring it the way I wanted (7 pin, breakaway, battery), adding on some stuff, painting it, and building some boxes for it... I probably have close to $2500 into it. The nice thing is that if you take care of it then it'll last a lifetime.
The biggest mistake I ever made was putting a 2" receiver on it so I can put my multimount winch on it. I've used it to drag other people's **** on my trailer 9 or 10 times... never once for any of my junk. It's amazing how as soon as you have a large trailer (more than 76" between the wheelwells) AND able to winch junk on it how often you get phone calls.
Probably all the more I'm going to do to it is take the frame and repaint it, make a custom V box, and buy a set of 6 on 5.5" axles with brakes and give my Dad the Furd ones. I think I might put shocks back on it also.

i've got a homemade trailer that i bought off a guy. its build from channel and has a wood deck. it had motor home axles, took those off this spring and got (2) 6K lb axles for it. i paid $800 for the trailer and have put about $1000-$1200 into it. i probalby could have bought a 7Klb trailer for the same price but i like having some extra capacity.
