Hello all. I am a novice when it comes to things like this, i'd like to think I know more, but alas I am stuck. I recently had a remote start put in my 00' XJ Sport, and today it decided not to start. I am not sure what it is, but it is like it tries, and the more gas you give it the longer it will stay running. Off the gas, and it is dead. I let it sit for a while, and tried again, and it seems to be getting weaker now. I deducted it was something with the battery or alternator, am I right? I had the alternator replaced after they discovered a faulty one, but that was 25,000 miles ago. Also, just in case it helps, my low beams stopped working recently, just the highs work.

If anyone has any suggestions they would be heartily appreciated... keep in mind I am a college student with limited funding, anything I can do by myself would be great.

Thanks!

did a pro- shop install the remote start system?, if so where's it at & whats the name so all can steer clear of it.. & you said recently put in(I hope there was some sort of warranty), if a shop did it I'd call them & have 'em either send out a technician or pay for towing to their shop & for them to get the thing going..

sounds electrical to me, duh?!?! you knew that.
If you & a bud put on the remote srt. sys.
I'd work backward from the remote start wiring and to any connection to original electrical components like the fuse block, relays etc..
& if the remote srt. sys . has an fusable links or relays i'd check them also...

Remember start simple when trouble shooting, A Haynes manual for your XJ has all kinds of wiring diagrams & how to trouble shoot essentially every electrical part on the thing, all you need is the $8 Haynes manual, an Ohm meter & some time...

Yeah, today I replaced the battery... it needed it anyway. No help. I don't think it is the remote starter, it was put in by a shop here that does real good work. I think now it is something fuel system related. It will start, with alot of gas, and then stay running if you keep it about 2,000 rpms. Ahhh... I hate this, and it is 3,000 miles out of warranty, not to mention the dealership is about 15 miles away.

Any more suggestions. WHat about fuel filter?
