I have an '01 XJ Sport that I'd like to start some mods on. (lift, tires, SYE, axle) I bought a nice extended warranty, and I'm wondering how this will work with the mods.
Did most of you wait until the warranty was over before starting, or just take your chances with the service company honoring the warranty in spite of the work on the Jeep?

Well, technically only the warranty on the parts you've modified or replaced is void, or unless it's obvious the mod caused the damage (ie: you slap on some 38" tires and snap a u-joint, then of course they won't warranty the breakage).

So, if you put on a lift and tires and SYE, etc, and your AC konks out, the one had no effect on the other so there shouldn't be any issue getting the AC repaired under warranty.

However, in real life, that's seldom the case. Many dealers will refuse warranty work of ANY kind on modified Jeeps, which technically they can't do, but they do it anyways.

My best advice is to try and find a reputable local dealer that works with a local 4wd or Jeep club and get to know the service manager and GM of the dealership.

Also, if a dealer hassles you over a warranty claim which obviously is totally unrelated to your mods, get a second opinion from another dealership, then call Chrysler Customer Care and explain the situation.

blew my 4 cylinder the 2nd week i had it. oil pump went and the rest went with it. bent all the valves, blew the rings off all 4 pistons... it was a mess. the company that i'm warrantied under is kinda vague about alot of things, and i think they'd go nuts if they knew i had big ol' meats on it now, so i keep my little 215s around just in case. even if they refuse it, it's already paid for itself.
