Why did Ford stop making the 9"?

The 9" fit the heaver, rear-wheel drive cars of the past.. Since most of the cars Ford builds today are lighter and front wheel drive they have little use for the 9" anymore.

Ferd still sells lots 'o trucks though... which is also where the 9'er was used.

Most of the trucks get the 9.75" rear at a minimum now. The only ones that use the 8.8" rear have the V6 or the 4.6 without the tow package. ;)
