Looks like an 80s 9.25" to me (going by leaf spring plates) but it only has 10 differential cover bolt holes and 9.25" I thought had 12. So maybe it is a 8.25". Seems strange that they'd put a 8.25" in a 1/2 ton pickup.

its an 8.25, the 2wd trucks got em alot, specially with the 318.
A 9.25 looks nothing like that...

Ah, leave it to Chrysler to put a 3/8 ton axle in a 1/2 ton truck.
Well, at least I was right about the 9.25 having 12 bolts on the cover instead of the 8.25's 10 bolts. It looks like they used the leaf spring plates the same... at least between 2wd Rams and Ramchargers.

8.25 in a big asss Dodge Ram.
How disappointing.
This is the truck:

and Brian, yes it has a 318.
So my Jeep has a more powerful engine AND a stronger rear axle than that.
You have palm trees :roflmao:

I think they are still using the same leaf spring plates
And the axle held up fine behind the 318 and the 6 cylinder rams.
I'm lookin for a 60/70 combo outta a 1ton to swap into the ram charger...

I'd take the 8.25 over a 44 in that app, bigger stronger tubes, which when it comes to how you'd use the truck is more important.
If it bugs you a 60 outta a 3/4 ton or 70 outta 1 ton is a direct bolt in

60 is a bolt-in? reeeeeallllllllly
It's gonna be used to tow my XJ around on a trailer, and it'll possibly be fitted with a sleeper shell. If I do the shell, I'd definetely want to upgrade that rear end.
I'll hop up the engine, as we've discussed before, but I won't run any larger than a LT235/75R15 or a 30"
