my friend just lifted his yj 4" and put on 33's. i believe it was a procomp lift. the lift and tires all look great but he complains about the bumpy ride. is there anything to do to help with the ride. would the coil over conversion kit help with the ride? thanks

I have that same lift on my yj and there is not much you can do. If he wants he can buy new shocks because the ones that come with the kit are fairly stiff, however, that won't help a great deal. The best thing to do is beat the crap out of the suspension. I don't mean like jumping it, just wheelin and every day use. He needs to break in his springs. It took mine about a year to loosen up but I didn't wheel very much when I first got it, now it is very soft. You mentioned the pro-comp coil conversion, I have heard that those are also stiff and aren't worth the money. Just tell him to suffer for a while, he will get used to it and then it will get better. If he wants a good road ride tell him to get a car.

You could always suggest a shackle reversal. That would put the front shackles under the driver which, in terms of suspensionn geometry would make for a smoother ride. If you imagine how the front springs compress when you hit a bump then you see that it basically transfers that force up to the rear of the front spring hanger. If you put the shackles in the rear of the front springs then when you hit a bump the springs will bend easier and the shackles will do their job. This would also be better for your apporach angle though you need to make sure that you have enough travel with your front slip yoke.

Just an idea. I have an XJ and don't know about the quality of the ride but the theory is good.

spring over and run a flatter spring.

he can probably get 33's on running stock YJ springs with a springover

most YJs out there still have their factory seats, which are probably more than a little worn now. Swapping to a good aftermarket one might smooth things out enough for him to be happy. Supposedly the 03 wrangler seats are the best yet.

Lifted YJs and bumpy rides are just a fact of life. I wish I could sort tmine out to but Ive gotten accustomed to the fact Im not driving a cadillac. Anyone finds a way to correct this problem, let me know. graemlins/icon322.gif

in all seriousness, it should settle down after the springs get set in some...

have fun..
