When outfitting your Jeep for serious off-roading, one of the things that is often missed is protection for your differentials. Sure, you put on skid plates for your gas tank, transfer case, and even transmission, you install rocker guards and heavy-duty bumpers, but what about your differential covers? The front diff is the lowest part of the vehicle and it faces forward, making it the perfect target for rocks. Smack one of those into a rock hard enough and you could ruin the gears in your axle. I've managed to scrape my diff covers on a few occasions, nothing that would cause damage to the gears so far, but I don't want to take any chances in the future. I'd been looking at the diff guard from the Four X Doctor for a while, and when I found a used one for sale I jumped at the chance.

The kit comes with the diff guard and longer bolts to hold everything in place. Installation is pretty simple, and doesn't require draining the differential. All you do is remove the bottom 5 bolts from the diff cover, put the guard in place, and bolt it up using the longer bolts. You just need to get the bolts "finger tight", or at least that's what I've been told. Since I bought my guard used, I didn't get any instructions with it, I assume the Four X Doctor includes instructions on how much to tighten the bolts.

There was some trouble getting the guard to fit right, so I had to do a little grinding to get it to sit flush against the diff cover. Other than that the guard looks great, and very beefy. The nice thing about these guards is you don't loose any ground clearance and there are no clearance problems with steering components (as you can see).
